“The miracle I prayed would happen”

Never having been away from home, my teenage son was petrified to be going to Camp Huntington.  No one could alleviate his fears, and we wondered if he would even get on the plane for the flight to camp.

Now, fast forward to being home from camp for two weeks and back at school.  The growth in maturity I see in my son is no less than the miracle I prayed would happen.

Most notably he is being respectful.  The anger and defiance that would come out when asked to do something, seems to have subsided. He wants to be helpful and work with others.  He is seeing the importance of taking care of his things (like his room and personal items).

He is focusing on his homework, through its completion, and does so without complaints.  It's a big deal that he is not blaming others as much, for his life's situations (and his grades).

I see a boy who is contemplating his future and planning some goals.  Most important he is beginning to take some responsibility for his future without insisting it is someone else's job.

Thank you everyone at Camp Huntington for lovingly dealing with our endearing and frustrating children.  What an amazing summer our son had with you!
